Outreach, Ministries and Groups at Holy Family Parish
- Advent Giving Tree. The tree is set up in the church narthex the weekend after Thanksgiving Day. Participants are asked to take a tag from the tree and bring back the Christmas gift indicated on the tag. These gifts are then distributed to various agencies, organizations and individuals who in turn deliver them to those in need in our community. For more information, contact Andrea Liggett.
- Apostleship of the Cross
Be part of the formation of the new "Spirituality of the Cross" ministry. Meetings are being held in the parish center on the first and third
Wednesdays of the month after the 8:40 a.m. Mass. See the flier for more event information.
Members of the Apostleship of the Cross strive always, with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Spirituality of the Cross, to lead lives of sanctity. Inspired by the teachings of Conchita Cabrera and Fr. Felix Rougier, they should do so by unifying their lives and hearts with Jesus' sufferings through means of prayer and service in the community. In particular, they should offer such acts for the sanctification of priests and bishops.
- Parish Book Club. Anyone can join in or just come to listen to the discussion. Meeting are at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. Click here for a list of books we are reading and a schedule of meeting dates.
- Coffee Hours. Fr. Nagel would like to see coffee hours happen every weekend. Are you willing to work at one? Maybe you’re part of a group, or maybe the Holy Spirit is calling you individually! Please email info@hfkparish.org or contact the parish office.
- Crossroads Meal Program provides a meal to low-income people living in the Crossroads Mall area on the first Thursday of every month. Volunteers help prepare the food in the Social hall kitchen and then deliver and serve the meal at the Salvation Army location in Bellevue. Meal preparation begins at 3:30 and the evening ends by 7:30. Homemade cookies are also needed to serve with the meal. Contact Doris Steele at (425)827-3846.
- Taking Eucharist to the sick, elderly, and homebound. Contact Betsy Staal.
- Evangelization Commitee of Holy Family Parish searches for creative means to bring Catholics closer to Christ, and non-Catholics closer to the Church. This group has helped to initiate study groups, bring speakers to the parish, start a newsletter, and provide advertising welcoming people to the Church. They have provided the Light House Catholic Media display in the narthex, Catholic outreach cards at funerals, new pew cards welcoming visitors, and have started a phone ministry to reach every parishioner for input.
- Full of Grace: Women and the Abundant Life. This is a study course that explores the unique vocation of women in the Catholic Church through Sacred Scripture, Church teaching, philosophy, spirituality, prayer, and inner healing. Meetings are held on Wednesdays in the Saint Jerome Room in the Parish Center from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Meeting dates are: November 17, December 15, January 12 2011, February 16, March 16, April 13, May 18, June 15.
- Hispanic Ministry facilitates the participation of the Hispanic community in the life of the parish by recruiting leadership from the Hispanic community and by encouraging bi-lingual events. The goal is an integrated parish that honors the traditions of all cultures. For more information, contact Andrea Liggett.
- The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization that offers men in our parish an opportunity to work together in building the Body of Christ through the principles of unity, charity, fraternity, and patriotism. Holy Family Council No. 7642 currently has over 170 members. More »
- The Legion of Mary meets at Holy Family Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the Common Room (off the Church Narthex). The Legion of Mary, founded in Ireland in 1921, is a lay Catholic organization whose members offer prayer and service to the Church. Contact Mike Dolan (206-246-6468) for more information.
- Malawi Committee The Malawi Sister Parish Committee works to support our sister parish relationship with the Nguludi Catholic Mission in Nguludi, Malawi, Africa. Through sharing prayer requests, fostering mutual understanding, building individual relationships, exchanging parish delegations, offering financial support and implementing improvement projects, this unique covenant provides for a mutual sharing of faith, experience and culture among the members of the two communities. - Men’s Ministry Men’s Wednesday Morning Faith Sharing meets in the parish center every Wednesday morning, at 6:15am – ends with closing prayer at 7:29pm. Doors open for free breakfast at 5:45am. - Mothers’ Study
Because mothers need other mothers. A group of study, prayer, and fellowship for mothers of all ages & stages. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 7 pm in the parish center. Contact Elena Lamb at 425-443-1767 or dvdlam1@comcast.net for more information.
- Natural Family Planning (NFP) Classes. Holy Family Parish has NPF classes available. See the Marriage Page for more information, class schedules and registration information.
- Pakikisama is our parish Filipino-American group. Organized in January 1996, the group’s main purpose is to be of service to the parish. The group gladly welcomes parishioners who support its goals, participate in its activities, and aid in its fund-raising efforts. More »
- Prison Ministry provides quality pastoral care and a healing presence to incarcerated men at the Washington State Reformatory in Monroe. Contact Thanh and Van Nguyen Le at (425)221-4276.
- The Respect Life Committee encourages our parish in prayer, sacrifice and action for the most vulnerable members of society. Taking guidance from the Bishops of the United States, the committee seeks to educate Catholics about the teachings of the Church pertaining to the full spectrum of life issues. More »
- Rosary Makers. Rosaries provide comfort and prayer power for many people throughout the world and are not always available. A group of parishioners make rosaries that are blessed and sent as far away as Africa, South America or Asia, as well as to those in need right here at home. The Rosary Makers meet on the last Wednesday of the month in the Parish Center. Contact Carla Krekelberg at (425)822-1911.
- Quilters. This group makes linens and liturgical banners for the church. Quilters support the Grief Ministry program and fund-raisers for the Malawi Committee. This is a great way to meet new friends and use your sewing skills for good works. Quilting experience is not necessary. Quilters meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Parish Center. For more information, contact Marian Papenhausen or call the parish office.
- Sandwich Makers. Lazarus Day Center Volunteers meet on the 7th of each month to make sandwiches for homeless men and women. Drivers pick up bread and deliver sandwiches to downtown Seattle. Substitute drivers are always needed. Sandwich makers and sandwich fillings are welcome. Contact Jane Vimont.
- Shared Blessings Meals Ministry
The Shared Blessings Meals Ministry is a new Ministry at Holy Family for volunteers willing to cook for parishioners in need (i.e. new baby, illness, death in the family, etc.). Volunteers receive an email when someone is requesting meals, and can sign up for a date to cook and deliver a meal. There are no meetings to attend or long-term committments to make. - The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads participants to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person outreach to those who are needy and suffering. More »
- Young Adults Group
Are you a faith filled Catholic young adult looking for greater community? Come join us! We meet every Friday at 7pm in the St. Jerome room. All are welcome. Spirit and Truth is a Catholic ministry, whose mission is to bring young adults into relationship with Christ through worship of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, study of church teachings and sacred scripture and celebrations of Catholic traditions, while forming a community of life-giving relationships. Young Adults meet weekly for Eucharistic Adoration and fellowship afterwards at a local restaurant.
