Becoming Catholic

Interested in becoming a Catholic?

Catholics Come Home has a comprehensive web site with information about what it means to become a Catholic.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

RCIA is a process through which non-baptized adults or baptized adults of a different Christian denomination may enter into Full Communion with the Catholic Church. Baptized Catholics who have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation may also join us.

Every adult is welcomed into the Catholic community through this year-round process. Those who are not baptized receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Those who are baptized in another Christian denomination receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Catholics in the process receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

There are two RCIA inquiry groups. One meets Tuesday morning and other meets Tuesday evening. If you are interested in attending either the morning ore evening group, please contact Damian Bastasini.

The Christian Initiation process is not a program. The process is a journey of faith...

  • ...through the initial stages of asking and seeking
  • ...through beginning involvement with Christian/Catholic people
  • ...through hearing the Gospel proclaimed and by faithful reflection and prayer on this Word of God
  • ...through study and discussion about Catholic experience
  • ...through doubts and hesitations
  • ...through discernment of God's call for them as individuals
  • ...through the steps of commitment
  • ...through the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist)

This process is for those who:

  • Are interested in learning more about the Catholic Church;
  • Have never celebrated baptism;
  • Have celebrated Baptism in another faith and are interested in the Catholic Church;
  • Are baptized Catholics who have not yet received Eucharist or Confirmation;
  • Or, Are married to a Catholic and attend Mass but just don't know what the next step is to become one of the Catholic faithful.

RCIA and Sacramental Preparation for Teens

This is an ongoing process for students in grades 7-12 who are seeking full initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) into the Catholic Church or who have not yet received First Reconciliation or First Eucharist. Teens meet as a small group with a catechist, who prepares them for reception of the sacraments. The group attends LIFE TEEN Masses and dismisses after hearing the Gospel to discuss what they’ve heard. Teens also attend weekly LIFE Nights to aid in their catechetical formation. For more information, contact Katie Krueger.

RCIA for Children

This is an ongoing process for children, seven years to twelve years old (6th grade), who have not been baptized or have been baptized in another faith tradition and wish to become Catholic. This yearly process provides children with a basic understanding of their faith as well as prepares them for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation—Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
